Our story started behind the scenes in Canadian natural health product manufacturing, where our team spent years working closely with raw materials, formulations, and finished products. Over time, this experience gave us a deeper appreciation for what quality really means — not just in a finished bottle, but in every decision made along the way. With our Canadian manufacturing foundation established in 1996 and our own in-house biotech laboratory capabilities, we knew we could build a brand with quality at its core.

Today, WIDE Naturals brings together Canadian manufacturing experience, laboratory insight, and science-informed formulation to create natural health products people can take with confidence every day.

Our Capabilities
In-house Laboratory & Research Support
We are supported by our own independent research laboratory in British Columbia, Melius Microbiomics. The laboratory operates as a vertically integrated research platform, supporting formulation development, analytical validation, stability assessment, and quality-related testing across the product lifecycle. The laboratory is equipped to design and validate its own analytical and development methods, allowing research and formulation work to move beyond standardized, off-the-shelf approaches. The laboratory also maintains ongoing research capabilities in microbiology and microecology-related fields, supported through scientific collaboration with the University of British Columbia (UBC).
By maintaining internal research and validation capabilities, Wide Naturals ensures consistency, traceability, and quality control from early development through to finished products.
Manufacturing & Production Standards
Manufacturing is conducted in Canada through our own established production facility, Canadian Phytopharmaceuticals, with extensive experience in regulated nutritional products. We operate under recognized quality and regulatory standards and has supported numerous products approved for the Canadian market since 1996.
This manufacturing structure enables consistent production quality while meeting Canada's compliance requirements.

Dr. Jacek Usakiewicz, PhD
Director of Science and Research

Dr. Usakiewicz is a senior scientist and research leader with over 20 years of industrial experience in pharmaceutical and biotechnology research and development. His scientific expertise spans organic chemistry, drug design, assay development, protein chemistry, natural products chemistry, and mass spectrometry-based analytical methods. Over the course of his career, he has led and contributed to advanced research programs involving analytical method development, compound characterization, and biotechnology innovation.
Dr. Usakiewicz conducted postdoctoral research at the Biotechnology Research Institute of the National Research Council of Canada in Montreal. He has worked with several Canadian and U.S. biotechnology and life science companies, including MDS Protana, PerkinElmer, and Neurocrine Biosciences. He is the author of over 40 peer-reviewed publications and is named on 14 international patent applications.
His background supports a more rigorous approach to natural health product development, from ingredient evaluation and active compound analysis to formulation design and product quality verification.

Dr. Lukman Sarker, PhD
Lab Manager / Head of Microbiology
Dr. Sarker is a molecular biologist and laboratory leader with expertise across microbiology, analytical chemistry, plant science, molecular biology, and genomic research. He began his career as a microbiologist with ICDDR,B, where he contributed to a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation vaccine development project. He later completed his doctoral research at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, focusing on lavender secondary metabolites and their role in regulating essential oil quality.
His scientific experience includes microbiological research, molecular analysis, genomic data generation, plant metabolite studies, and analytical chemistry applications. This multidisciplinary background supports a deeper understanding of natural ingredients, microbial quality, active compounds, and product quality evaluation.
Dr. Sarker’s expertise strengthens WIDE Naturals’ laboratory-driven approach to raw material assessment, formulation support, and finished product quality review.
Dr. Ayelign Adal, PhD
Lead Molecular Biologist
Dr. Adal is a molecular biologist and plant biotechnologist with over 10 years of research, development, and mentoring experience. His expertise includes molecular techniques, tissue culture, genotyping, plant biotechnology, and the study of specialized metabolites. His research experience spans gene identification, plant development, essential oil extraction, agricultural technologies, and bioproducts.
Dr. Adal holds degrees from Jimma University and Leibniz University of Hannover, and earned his PhD from the University of British Columbia. He further advanced his postdoctoral research at UBC, focusing on agricultural technologies, bioproducts, and the molecular mechanisms behind plant development and specialized plant compounds. He has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed publications and has participated in local and international scientific conferences.
His background supports WIDE Naturals’ science-informed approach to botanical ingredient understanding, plant-based formulation, natural compound research, and product development.
